Comment on Michael Morris: Nice job Michael. You remembered to post your link on Ms.Douglas' page, you included a picture, and you explained. However you forgot the picture link.
Comment on Jose Carranza: Hi Jose. Nice job. You could describe a bit more though. However your picture is very descriptive and helps with your question.

Cycle 2_Week 10

The question I posted is "Why is Pluto no longer considered a planet?" The answer to this is because it's smaller than all the other planets(even Earth's moon), it's orbit is off, and one of it's moon named Charon is half it's size. So in 2006, scientists proclaimed Pluto a dwarf planet. It's the second largest dwarf planet.

Cylce 2_Week 9

Reflecting on class today, I remember overall learning that the rotation of the Earth affects the shadows of objects. For example when we first went outside Ms.Douglas drew an outline around the shadow of a car in the parking lot. When we came back at the end of the period, the shadow had moved to the right. The purpose of a sundial is to tell time. A sundial works by the sun shining down on the gnomon(the triangular peice on the sundial) and the gnomon's shadow falls upon the hour line. What I learned in class today is the rotation of the Earth affects where an object's shadow lies. Since the Earth is always moving the Sun's rays are always hitting different places, which means the shadow's are going to be different places too.

Technology has helped me as a student because for one, I'm much better with using technology. It has also helped me because I got to finish my work quicker and faster like if I need to make a word document I can do it on Google Docs and send it to my teacher. I've done very well in our science class technology class. I've kept up and I excelled in the learning of technology. What I did well was my blogs. In our blogs, I learned how to use some good websites, another way of communication on line, and I learned a lot of science by working on blogs. Since I gave my best, I don't think I could have done anything better. My suggestion for blogging in the future is to have teammates post questions, and their teammates can research it and comment answers. That way they all learn something new.

Cycle 2_Week 7

The oil spill I am writing about is the Ixtoc 1 spill. The reason why this oil spill occured is because the Ixtoc 1 oil well suffered a blow out(uncontrollable release of crude oil after the pressure systems fail). Cause of the spill: the crew workers were removing the pipe, mud flowed out and following the mud came oil and gas. The oil and gas met the operating pump motors which exploded and caused a fire. The location of the spill was in the Bay of Campeche off Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico. The type of oil that was leaking was a heavy crude oil because it came from deeper within the ocean's floor. The amount of oil that leaked in this spill was about 140,000,000 gallons. Another fact I learned was that this spill was and still is ranked the largest oil spill ever. I also learned that this spill was hard to clean up because it mixed in with the water and became a thick liquid.

Cycle 2_Week 6
Some of the careers engineers are involved in are involved in includes working with mechanics, the environment, and marine and ocean life. These careers all show a different side to engineering. They also take us a little deeper into the many different qualities engineering can give. In mechanical engineering you can create new inventions, ranging from toys to car engines. In environmental engineering you can come up with new ways to help save the environment and keeping it safe. In marine engineering you can make boats and anything else that deals with the ocean. If I had to choose between any careers in engineering, I'd choose environmental engineering because then I could come up with ways to save the earth. But I don't really want to become an engineer.

Cycle 2_Week 5 Post 2
Schools are using blogs for learning purposes. If a child didn't understand his/her school work that day they can go to the class' blog and read it over to try and understand the work. They are also using the blogs to post projects. I looked at the blog for Mrs.Stoddart and saw she posted up reminders for her class and also some different science topics. Some ideas I found for using blogger in class was to help us with science. We have different topics to write about ( related to science) and I've noticed it has helped our understanding of science. Some ideas I have for blogger in class is for those with questions to post those questions as blogs. Then people can look on them and leave their answers as comments. It's a way for communication, learning, and help at the same time.

Cycle 2_Week 5 Post 1
The technology we use in school has influenced me to learn a little bit more on how to communicate with technology. During our technology session, we made emails to help understand our science assignments. Blogging has not improved my writing. Blogging is just another form of writing. It's not like an entire vocab improvement book. Blogging did help me on the NJ ASK because of the assignments we had to write on. We had to type on different science related subjects. It helped me to remember some science materials we studied but other than that nothing. The technology we used in class did connect me with me classmates and such. Ex. IGoogle, chat, blogs. These are my thoughts on our session in technology. My overall experience was fun.

Cycle 2_Week 3
I think the author most likely wrote the passage because she wanted to warn humans about the consequences when you eat sea turtles. I know this because through out the passage I read about the effects eating sea turtle meat can have on humans, and how eating sea turtle meat can decrease it's population in the ocean. In the passage it says,"Sea turtles absorb a lot of pollution from the ocean, including pesticides and heavy metals like mercury and cadmium. These toxins are health hazards for both turtles and humans and can cause permanent damage to their bodies." This tells me that eating sea turtle meat is very bad for humans because of the toxins the turtle absorbs. Also in the passage it says,"Sea turtles also carry the bacteria salmonella, which can cause severe diarrhea in people." This tells me eating sea turtle meat can be hurtful and painful. This reminds me of how monacrh butterflies are poisonous. They are pretty on the outside, hurtful when they're inside you. That's why animals rarely eat them.

Cycle 2_Week 2
If I were to create a game it would be called Survive The World. Before you play, you get to name and pick the gender of your character. Then you give them an outfit to wear before you start the first challenge. First, your character starts off in a place called Ice Landic Wonders. Ice Landic Wonders is a deserted ice land and your character has to survive and reach main land with only supplies from your old broken down pick up truck. Sadly, the supplies aren't packaged and manufactured. You only have the hub cab, wires, oil, old clothes and the insulation in the car's seats. Then you're off! You also have to out run (or slide) leopard seals. When you reach main land, you are then transported off to a tropical island. You think it's deserted but yet again you're in trouble. You need to learn how to avoid the killer natives poisonous animals and insects. Then you are transported to a desert, after which is an active volcano, then in the middle of an ocean. There are levels after levels and there will always be new challenges added. The things you could learn in Survive The World are how to survive in different areas of the world. Remember the seat's insulation? You could rip that out and wrap it around your feet to avoid frost bite. The message my game sends to the players is tho always be prepared in difficult situations and to make the best with what you have. You could overcome these challenges by looking through the supplies you are given through each level and working with them. What makes my games fun are that challenges and the actual facts you get from the game. Also the adrenaline rush. ( Like being chased by natives or an ice monster.) I'm sure they'd love my game! I know I would.

Cycle 2_Week 1
One game I usually play is Spider Solitaire and regular Solitaire on the computer. Sorry there is no website for it. It's just in the games section in the programs on the computer. The goal of these games is to try and get all the cards in order. It can be difficult but most times for me it's not. What I learn from playing the game is the be fast and to be quick with my brain. This game can be used educationally by memorizing numbers.
Next, there's Boggle. Once again there is no website. This game can be played on the DS or with the regular board game. The goal of this game is to be the person with the most words in the jumbled letters. That's only if you're playing with others. When you play with by yourself, you just try to get as many words as you can. What I can learn from this is many different words. This can be used educationally for you to expand your vocabulary.
Another game I play is called Cooking Mama. Once again there is no website.(That I know of.) The one I play is for the Nintendo DS. I play Cooking Mama 1 and 2. This games can be educational and occasionally frustrating. It's frustrating when I don't get it right. What this game can teach me is how to cook foreign dishes. It's pretty fun.
There are tons ore games but if I wrote them all I wouldn't have time to finish. So I hope you liked it. These games are just a few of the many games I play. Some of the games I play are educational. Others are just for fun. So this concludes my blog.

My Reflection
Overall during these last 6 blogs, I've been partially correct. The only thing is sometimes, I'd leave out some information on how to solve the problem. Through out this unit, I've learned a lot. I've learned about all of the different types of energy, and the one essential law to energy. To me, I think my blogs could have been better. I think if I researched and understood the topic a little more, I could have gotten every aspect of my blogs correct. For example, when I did a blog on Week 5, I was incorrect because it was an energy conversion, not Kinetic energy.( The when you put the cup on the table topic.)When I read my comments, overall I was told I was good but that I could've done better. And I always strive to do better. What I can do in my next cycle of blogs is to research and comprehend a little more. Then, I'll understand the science behind our topics. I'll also be able to write better blogs and receive better comments. This concludes my reflection on my blog status.

Week5_Prompt#2
The reason why the cup got more kinetic energy is because when you out the cup on the table it received more kinetic energy. The formula for kinetic energy consists of speed and mass. (You multiply speed times mass.) So when you put the cup on the table, it's speed times its mass gave it a higher kinetic energy amount. The table lost kinetic energy because when the cup came down, some energy was transfered to the cup. So in conclusion, the cup got more kinetic energy and the table lost some.

Week4_Winner Takes All
The problem the Design Squad had to solve was to make a a sled, but it had to be able to ride through grass instead of snow. It had to be man maneuvered. They had to find the right materials for the sled to go down the hill. At first, the red team tried out all of the different sleds to see which would be able to slide down the hill. None of those prototypes worked. Then ,they decide to try and make a sled with wheels. The blue team are going to try that idea too. Then someone came up with the idea of doing the sled in sections. She said it would have 3 sections and be able to twist and turn. You'd also be able to hook on sections. During this challenge the Design Squad listened to each other's ideas and made great suggestions. They brainstormed, and corrected each other, and were a great team.
I would approach this problem by riding the different sleds down the hill. Then, I'd brainstorm until I came with a good idea. Then, I'd build a prototype and ride it. If it didn't work, I'd go back to my ideas and find out what went wrong. If all went well, I'd build the real deal and test it to make sure it works. That's how I'd approach the problem. What I learned from this episode was to work together with your teammates. Listen to their ideas and they will listen to yours. I also learned that everyone has good ideas so you should listen.

Week3_Prompt2
The reason the air around the surface of the water got cooler is because of evaporation. Since the water evaporated, the energy (and heat) decreased. Since the heat from the water decreased, so did it's surroundings. Basically, this is endothermic. (Because it gave off energy to it's surroundings.) So in conclusion, the air got cooler because of it's endothermic enegry.

Week2_Prompt#1
The energy from the ball dropping didn't disappear. My reason is because of the law of conservation of energy. According to the law, energy cannot be created or destroyed. So my friend was incorrect. Energy may not be able to be created or destroyed but it can be transferred. So when the ball reached the surface of the floor, it transferred some it's energy. This caused some of it's amount of energy to be reduced, making it stop bouncing. So in conclusion, the energy didn't disappear it was transferred.

Week1_Prompt#1
The nail head gets warm because of the kinetic and thermal energy associated with the hammer coming down upon it. The formula for kinetic energy is mv2 divided by 2. So when you bring the hammer down upon the nail, you have your kinetic energy. When the hammer hits the nail, the molecules in the nail move faster. When the molecules in the nail move faster the temperature increases. Thus causing the thermal energy creating the temperature to increase. So in conclusion, that is the process of the hammer and the nail.

Technology in Science
I like science because if I become the doctor when I grow up, at least I've learned a few things. ( A doctor is one of the many of my possibilities.) I like using the computers during science because it helps me get a better feel with the computers and how they work. So far, we've learned about the different types of energy and the formulas. We've also learned a little more on the computers.
